Where to stay in Miami
Miami is a city of extremes on a hotel bill. Through June 2026 the county averaged $283.32 a night, but that single number hides a spread from about $166 near the airport to nearly $370 in Miami Beach. Pick the neighbourhood first, the month second, and the room last — in that order the same trip can cost half as much.

The month decides more than the star rating
Across 3.9 million observed Miami rates, September averages $128 a night and February $267 — a 52% swing on the same city. If your dates have any give, moving the trip out of February, March and December is the single largest saving available.
What lands on the bill after the room rate
- Lodging tax. Most mainland Miami-Dade stays carry roughly 12% in combined state and local lodging tax; Miami Beach commonly totals about 13%.
- Resort and destination fees. Beachfront hotels routinely add a daily fee on top of the room. Mandatory fees generally have to be shown in the displayed total, so compare finals, not headline rates.
- Parking. Daily valet or self-parking in South Beach and Brickell is a real line item. Inland boutiques often have none at all.
- Event weeks. The Grand Prix in May, Ultra in March and Art Basel in early December lift the whole city, not just the host neighbourhood.
